The COVID-19 Era Impact And Natural Disaster

Challenges & Resilience

1. The COVID-19 Impact

Like many agricultural firms, Sadi Agricultural Holdings faced significant disruptions during the pandemic.

  • Supply Chain & Logistics: Lockdowns hindered the movement of essential inputs (livestock feed, seeds, and machinery parts).
  • Labor & Operations: Health protocols required a shift in how farmhands and poultry handlers managed daily tasks, impacting productivity.
  • Economic Strain: The global downturn forced a reorganization of their “Risk Management & Governance Framework” to protect the business against market volatility.

2. Thunderstorm & Severe Weather Damage

The company’s operations in the Kweneng East region are highly susceptible to the intense summer thunderstorms common in Southern Africa.

  • Structural Damage: High winds and lightning pose risks to greenhouses, poultry housing, and irrigation equipment.

Livestock Loss

Crop Loss: Heavy hail often associated with these storms can strip field crops, leading to immediate seasonal losses. We were not able to plough during the Covid pandemic to save human lives.

3. Flood Disruptions

Flooding has been one of the most severe environmental tests for the holding.

  • Soil Erosion: Excessive rainfall in the “Veld” areas can lead to topsoil loss, which the company counters through its “Stewardship of the Land” pillar.
  • Infrastructure Stress: Floods impact access roads and water solutions (boreholes and dams), requiring significant capital expenditure for repairs.
  • Recovery: The company has integrated Disaster & Crisis Management into its 2026 Roadmap to mitigate the “wash-out” effects of flash flooding on their legacy farms.
Moving Forward: Lessons Learned in Action

We have emerged from periods of uncertainty stronger, more aware, and more determined. Each challenge faced has provided valuable insight, shaping how we respond, adapt, and lead in an ever-changing agricultural environment.

Today, Sadi Agricultural Holdings (PTY) LTD is not defined by the crises we have encountered, but by how we have learned, evolved, and taken decisive action.

We are actively putting these lessons into practice by strengthening our systems, improving coordination across all divisions, and investing in smarter, more resilient agricultural operations. Our approach is now more proactive than reactive—focused on anticipation, preparedness, and rapid response.

We have enhanced our disaster readiness through structured planning, continuous training, and the integration of early warning and monitoring systems. Communication has become clearer, faster, and more transparent, ensuring that all family members remain informed and aligned during critical moments.

Operationally, we are reinforcing our supply chains, safeguarding our livestock and crops, and building flexibility into our logistics and resource management systems. Financially, we are prioritizing sustainability and preparedness to ensure stability even in the face of disruption.

Most importantly, we are fostering a culture of resilience—where every team member understands their role in navigating challenges and contributing to recovery and growth.
